When the Ole Seagull read the words of Missouri Senatorial Candidate Todd Aiken, “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” relative to rape involved pregnancies, he was shocked at its stupidity and in-sensitiveness . As he witnessed, what he believes, were Aiken’s selfish actions regarding continuing in the campaign in the face of what his loss could mean to the conservative cause he professes to champion; statements of other political leaders and the acronym DIAS “sprung” to mind:
Distrust – “Read my lips: no new taxes” (President George W. Bush)
Immorality – “I did not have sexual relations with that woman.” (President Bill Clinton)
Arrogance – “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.” (Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi)
Selfishness – “It seems to me first of all, from what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” (Todd Aiken, Missouri Republican Senatorial Candidate) Bear with an Ole Seagull here, I know the word “Stupid” fits the statement, but please read on.
George W. Bush’s statement, “Read my lips: no new taxes” is credited with helping him win the 1988 election even as it helped him lose the 1992 election to Clinton because of the of the tax increases he implemented after his election. To an Ole Seagull it has become the poster child for “Distrusting” anything coming out of a politicians mouth when it is open.
The words, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman” from the mouth of Bill Clinton illustrates the depths of Immorality that America is willing to accept from its political leaders. As important, it publically illustrated exactly how flexible the morality of our Nation is. Also amazingly, even allowing for Ms. Lewinski’s indiscretions, the fact that many women read the “Star Report” about the eight sexual encounters that “generally occurred in or near the private study off the Oval Office — most often in the windowless hallway outside the study” and still supported him. To an Ole Seagull that speaks volumes about the immorality that America will tolerate from the right people.
Nancy Pelosi’s words, “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy” illustrates both the Arrogance and disdain that America’s leaders have for the American people. Over 2,000 pages of one of the most costly, divisive and all encompassing pieces of legislation ever passed was Arrogantly rammed through Congress before the American public and, an Ole Seagull believes, the very people who voted for it understood its breadth and impact on America’s future.
When Missouri senatorial candidate Todd Aiken said, “It seems to me first of all, from what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” the amazing stupidity of the remark was obvious on its face. In the opinion of an Ole Seagull, his Selfishness in willing to risk the loss of the election not only compounds his situation, but illustrates the “It’s all about me” selfishness and self-concern that permeates America’s leaders and its people.
In talking about what could destroy America, Abraham Lincoln said, “If it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.” Could the results of DIAS, or similar types of actions, be the very thing Lincoln was referring to? For what is matters, an Ole Seagull believes that potential is very real as he trembles in fear for the welfare of his country and weeps for what it could have been.
